Target Information
PCNA (Proliferating Cell Nuclear Antigen) is an essential cofactor of DNA polymerase delta, playing a key role in DNA replication and repair. It binds to CDK inhibitor p21, endonucleases Fen1 and XPG, and DNA methyltransferase (MCMT). PCNA is a marker for proliferating cells, particularly in G1 and S phases, and is useful for assessing tumor proliferation and prognosis. It functions as a homotrimer that enhances DNA synthesis processivity and participates in RAD6-dependent DNA repair following DNA damage. Two transcript variants encode the same protein, and pseudogenes are found on chromosome 4 and the X chromosome.
