Product Specific Information

The eBioY1/82A antibody reacts with CD68, a member of the sialomucin family related to LAMP and scavenger receptors. CD68 is mainly intracellular, localized in late endosomes, but can also be detected on the surface of myeloid-derived cells (monocytes, macrophages, dendritic cells, neutrophils, basophils, mast cells, and progenitor cells). It may play roles in antigen processing and lysosomal membrane protection.

Staining with eBioY1/82A shows surface staining on B cells and a minor percentage of monocytes, while intracellular staining results in about 50% of B cells and most monocytes.

Applications Reported: Suitable for intracellular staining and flow cytometric analysis.
Applications Tested: Pre-diluted and validated using the Intracellular Fixation & Permeabilization Buffer Set (Product #88-8824-00). Recommended usage: 5 µL (0.125 µg) per test (100 µL final volume). Cell number: 10⁵–10⁸ cells/test.

Target Information

CD68 (Macrosialin) is a 110 kDa integral membrane glycoprotein expressed mainly in lysosomes of monocytes and macrophages, and to a lesser extent in dendritic cells and granulocytes. It is involved in phagocytic activity and lysosomal metabolism. CD68 expression is observed in tonsil reticulum cells, histiocytic lymphoma, AML, and granulocytic sarcoma, and is elevated in CD34+ cells in various malignancies.
