Target Information
Steroidogenic factor-1 (SF-1) is an orphan nuclear receptor involved in the development and differentiation of the endocrine system. It is essential for fetal development of the hypothalamus, pituitary gland, gonads, and adrenal gland. SF-1 promotes transcriptional activity of many steroidogenic enzymes from the cytochrome P450 family.
It contains two activation function domains (AF1 and AF2), common to nuclear steroid receptors, required for interaction with coactivators and corepressors such as SRC-1, GRIP1, CBP, and SMRT.
