Product Specific Information

0.5 µg/mL of MA5-45219 was sufficient for detection of 50 ng purified alpha B crystalline by colorimetric immunoblot analysis using Goat anti-mouse IgG:HRP as the secondary antibody.
Detects approximately 20 kDa (predicted molecular weight ≈ 21 kDa).
Does not cross-react with alpha A-crystallin, beta L-crystallin, beta H-crystallin, gamma-crystallin, HSP25, HSP27, or HSP47 proteins.

Target Information

Crystallins constitute about 95% of lens proteins and are also found in vertebrate skeletal muscle tissue.
Their structural role is to maintain the proper refractive index of the lens.
The mammalian lens contains three major crystallin classes: alpha, beta, and gamma.
Alpha-crystallin, the largest, consists of two gene products—alpha-A and alpha-B—and makes up about 40% of total lens protein.
It also acts as a chaperone by preventing aggregation that may lead to cataract formation.
Phosphorylation of alpha-crystallin occurs in response to cellular stress and may help regulate protein maintenance.
Alpha-B crystallin has been associated with Alexander’s disease, where it accumulates in brain cells.
