Target Information
Metadherin (MTDH, LYRIC) is a novel protein localizing with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during tight junction maturation rather than acting as a structural component. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissue and xenografts, while normal breast tissue expresses much lower levels. It binds to lung vasculature via a C-terminal segment; blocking this domain or inhibiting metadherin has been reported to reduce breast cancer metastasis.
