Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC, is a protein localized with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is recruited during the maturation of the tight junction complex rather than acting as a structural component.
Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, while its expression is low in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature, one of the common sites of breast cancer metastasis. Blocking this interaction with antibodies or siRNA has been shown to inhibit metastasis.
