Target Information
CD26 (dipeptidyl peptidase IV, DPP IV, adenosine deaminase binding protein) is a homodimeric atypical serine protease of the prolyl oligopeptidase family. It is expressed on lymphocytes and upregulated during T-cell activation, also found on activated B cells, natural killer cells, and epithelial tissues.
CD26 plays roles in T-cell activation, cell adhesion to extracellular matrix proteins (fibronectin, collagen), and HIV infection. It is identical to adenosine deaminase complexing protein-2 and functions as a serine exopeptidase cleaving X-proline dipeptides from polypeptides' N-terminus.
Alterations in CD26 activity are associated with malignant transformation, increasing with tumor grade and severity. Expression changes have been reported in monocytes and CD4+ T cells during rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus.
