Product Specific Information
Recognises an epitope shared by 145–150 kDa and 190 kDa complement receptor proteins, originally designated CR2 (CD21) and CR1 (CD35).
Target Information
CD21 (complement receptor 2, CR2) binds C3 complement fragments, particularly breakdown fragments covalently attached to complement-activating surfaces or antigens. It plays key roles in immunocomplex uptake, memory B-cell survival, and humoral response maintenance. CD21 also serves as a receptor for Epstein-Barr virus and is involved in prion targeting to follicular dendritic cells.
CD35 encodes a membrane glycoprotein expressed on peripheral blood cells, glomerular podocytes, and follicular dendritic cells. It functions as a receptor for complement components C3b and C4b, regulating complement cascade activity. Variations in CD35 form the basis of the Knops blood group system. A secreted plasma form has been described, though its full-length structure is undetermined.
