This antibody binds human CD28, which is found on a sub-population of T cells and activated B cells. The antibody does not react with B cells, granulocytes, or monocytes. CD28 is involved in T-cell activation, induction of cell proliferation, cytokine production, and promotion of T-cell survival.

Target Information

CD28 antigen is a 44 kDa disulfide-linked homodimeric T cell-specific surface glycoprotein. It is a cell adhesion molecule of the immunoglobulin superfamily, constitutively expressed on most peripheral blood T lymphocytes. CD28 acts as a critical T cell costimulatory receptor, providing the second activation signal by binding CD80 and CD86 on antigen-presenting cells. It prevents T cells from entering an anergic state or undergoing premature apoptosis. In murine lymphoid organs and blood, CD28 is expressed on all CD4+ and CD8+ T cells, with expression levels varying by maturation stage.

Diseases associated with CD28 dysfunction include mycosis fungoides and Sezary’s disease.
