Ghrelin acts as the ligand for the growth hormone secretagogue receptor type 1, regulating growth hormone release, stimulating appetite, inducing adiposity, and promoting gastric acid secretion.
Obestatin, derived from the same precursor, may act as a ligand for GPR39 and is involved in satiety, reducing appetite and food intake.
