TRAIL-R1 (CD261, DR4)는 type I transmembrane 단백질로, TRAIL receptor 1이라고도 불립니다. DR4의 리간드는 TRAIL로, TNF 패밀리에 속합니다. DR4는 다른 수용체(Fas, TNFR1 등)와 마찬가지로 다양한 세포와 조직에서 apoptosis 및 NF-kappaB 활성화를 매개합니다. Apoptosis는 다세포 생물의 정상적인 분화와 발달 과정에서 중요한 프로그램된 세포사멸 과정입니다. TNF 패밀리의 특정 사이토카인(TNF, Fas ligand)과 그 death domain을 포함하는 수용체(TNFR1, Fas receptor)의 결합에 의해 apoptosis가 유도됩니다.
