Target Information
Ribosomes are organelles that catalyze protein synthesis, composed of a small 40S subunit and a large 60S subunit. These subunits include 4 RNA species and approximately 80 structurally distinct proteins. The encoded cytoplasmic ribosomal protein is part of the 40S subunit and belongs to the S6E family. It serves as a major substrate for protein kinases, with phosphorylation occurring on five C-terminal serine residues. Phosphorylation is induced by growth factors, tumor-promoting agents, and mitogens, while dephosphorylation occurs during growth arrest. This protein contributes to cell growth and proliferation regulation by selective translation of specific mRNA classes. Multiple processed pseudogenes of this gene are dispersed throughout the genome.
