Target Information
IL-5 is a cytokine that acts as a growth and differentiation factor for both B cells and eosinophils. It is a key regulator of eosinopoiesis, eosinophil maturation, and activation. Elevated IL-5 production is associated with asthma and hypereosinophilic syndromes. The IL-5 receptor is a heterodimer whose beta subunit is shared with receptors for IL-3 and CSF2 (GM-CSF). IL-5, IL-4, IL-13, and CSF2 form a cytokine gene cluster on chromosome 5 and are coordinately regulated by long-range elements over 120 kb on chromosome 5q31.
