Target Information
IL-6 encodes a cytokine involved in inflammation and B cell maturation. This endogenous pyrogen induces fever and is expressed at sites of acute and chronic inflammation, activating transcriptional responses via the interleukin 6 receptor alpha.
IL-6 is implicated in multiple inflammation-related diseases, including diabetes mellitus, systemic juvenile rheumatoid arthritis, Kaposi sarcoma, and rheumatoid arthritis. Elevated IL-6 levels are also observed in viral infections such as COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2 infection).
