Target Information

CD31 (platelet endothelial cell adhesion molecule-1, PECAM-1) is an inhibitory coreceptor involved in regulation of T cell and B cell signaling through dual immunoreceptor tyrosine-based inhibitory motifs (ITIM). Upon phosphorylation by associated kinases, these motifs provide docking sites for protein-tyrosine phosphatases.
CD31 is expressed ubiquitously within the vascular compartment, mainly at junctions between adjacent cells. Its N-terminal Ig-like domain mediates homophilic binding, crucial for cell-cell interactions.
This multifunctional molecule plays roles in integrin-mediated adhesion, transendothelial migration, angiogenesis, apoptosis, immunoreceptor signaling regulation, autoimmunity, macrophage phagocytosis, IgE-mediated anaphylaxis, and thrombosis. It is a key regulator in the vascular system.
