Target Information
FOXN1 is a 648 amino acid protein belonging to the winged helix/forkhead family. It contains one fork-head DNA-binding domain and functions as a transcriptional regulator involved in development. FOXN1 directs lineage choices of multi-potential progenitor epithelial cells and regulates genes critical for lympho-epithelial interactions. It also modulates keratinocyte differentiation in hair follicles and nail apparatus. Defects in FOXN1 are associated with T-cell immunodeficiency, congenital alopecia, nail dystrophy, and thymus dysgenesis.
