Target Information
Bone Morphogenic Proteins (BMPs) are members of the TGF-beta superfamily that regulate bone and cartilage formation. Mature BMPs (30–38 kDa) adopt a TGF-beta–like cysteine knot configuration. BMP2 stimulates bone matrix protein production and influences stromal cell and osteoclast proliferation. It also plays key roles in development, cell proliferation, apoptosis, differentiation, and morphogenesis. BMPs interact with type II and type I receptors to activate the Smad signaling pathway.
