Target Information
The VAX1 gene encodes a homeodomain-containing transcription factor belonging to the VAX subfamily of homeobox genes. These genes play key roles in body development and morphogenesis.
VAX1 is located near the EMX homeobox gene family and another VAX family member on chromosome 2. The encoded protein is implicated in the development of the anterior ventral forebrain and visual system. Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
