Target Information

The VAX1 gene encodes a homeo-domain containing protein from the homeobox transcription factor family, conserved in vertebrates.
This family regulates body development and morphogenesis. The most conserved genes, called HOX genes, are located in special gene clusters.
VAX1 belongs to the VAX subfamily, near the EMX homeobox gene family, and another VAX member is located on chromosome 2.
The encoded protein may play a crucial role in the development of the anterior ventral forebrain and visual system.
Multiple transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified for this gene.
