Product Specific Information
Specificity: Binds Tyrosinase-related protein-1 (TRP-1), a 70–75 kDa enzyme located in melanocytes. TRP-1 stabilizes tyrosinase, the enzyme responsible for the first step in melanin production, and determines the shape of melanosomes, the structures where melanin is produced.
Target Information
This gene encodes a melanosomal enzyme belonging to the tyrosinase family. It plays an essential role in the melanin biosynthetic pathway. Defects in this gene cause rufous oculocutaneous albinism and oculocutaneous albinism type III.
