Target Information

SAP90/PSD-95-associated protein 3 (SAPAP3, also known as DLGAP3) is a member of a protein family that interacts with PSD-95/SAP90, a membrane-associated guanylate kinase localized at the postsynaptic density in neuronal cells.
SAPAP3 acts as an adaptor protein linking synaptic scaffolding proteins, cytoskeletal elements, and signaling molecules such as FAK and PYK2.
Both SAPAP3 protein and mRNA localize to dendrites, while other family members (SAPAP1, -2, -4) are mainly expressed in cell bodies.
Studies suggest SAPAP3 involvement in obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), as SAPAP3-deficient mice exhibit OCD-like behaviors that can be rescued by selective expression of SAPAP3 in the striatum.
