Target Information
Peroxiredoxin (Prx) is a peroxidase family involved in cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis. Mammalian Prxs consist of six members grouped into typical 2-Cys, atypical 2-Cys, and 1-Cys Prx subgroups.
Except Prx VI (1-Cys), other 2-Cys Prx isoforms exhibit thioredoxin-dependent peroxidase activity using thioredoxin, thioredoxin reductase, and NADPH.
Mammalian Prxs have molecular weights of 20–30 kDa and distinct subcellular localizations:
- Prx I, II, VI: Cytosol
- Prx III: Mitochondria
- Prx IV: Endoplasmic reticulum and secretion
- Prx V: Peroxisome, mitochondria, and cytosol
