Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the folate receptor family. Members of this family bind folic acid and its reduced derivatives, transporting 5-methyltetrahydrofolate into cells. The gene product can be membrane-anchored via a glycosyl-phosphatidylinositol linkage or exist in a soluble form. Mutations are associated with neurodegeneration due to cerebral folate transport deficiency. Multiple transcript variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
