This antibody specifically binds the hemagglutinin of avian influenza virus subtype H5.
Target Information
Haemagglutinin is an antigenic glycoprotein that allows viral attachment and entry into the cell. Sixteen subtypes (H1–H16) have been described; H1, H2, and H3 infect humans, while H5 and H7 typically cause avian disease. Highly pathogenic H5N1 strains can cause 100% mortality in poultry and occasionally infect humans with up to 60% mortality. Haemagglutinin H5 originates from Influenza A virus H5N1, a negative-sense single-stranded RNA virus of the Orthomyxoviridae family that causes respiratory disease. Haemagglutinin is a key antigenic target for antiviral drug and antibody development.
