Product Specific Information
This antibody recognizes CBX1 (Chromobox protein homolog 1). It binds to a folded domain (amino acids 20–73).
CBX1 is a component of heterochromatin and recognizes histone H3 tails methylated at Lys-9, leading to epigenetic repression.
Target Information
This gene encodes a highly conserved nonhistone protein belonging to the heterochromatin protein family.
It is enriched in heterochromatin and associated with centromeres.
The protein contains:
- An N-terminal chromodomain that binds histone proteins via methylated lysine residues
- A C-terminal chromo shadow-domain responsible for homodimerization and interaction with chromatin-associated nonhistone proteins
CBX1 plays an important role in epigenetic control of chromatin structure and gene expression.
Several related pseudogenes exist on chromosomes 1, 3, and X.
Multiple alternatively spliced variants encoding the same protein have been identified.
