Cytochrome P450 17A1은 cytochrome P450 초과가족에 속하는 효소로, 약물 대사 및 콜레스테롤, 스테로이드, 지질 합성에 관여하는 monooxygenase 기능을 수행합니다. 이 단백질은 소포체에 위치하며, 17α-hydroxylase 및 17,20-lyase 활성을 가지고 있습니다. 스테로이드 생성 경로에서 핵심 효소로 작용하며, progestins, mineralocorticoids, glucocorticoids, androgens, estrogens 생성에 관여합니다.
이 유전자 변이는 isolated steroid-17 alpha-hydroxylase deficiency, 17-alpha-hydroxylase/17,20-lyase deficiency, pseudohermaphroditism, adrenal hyperplasia와 관련이 있습니다.
