Target Information
MyoD (Myogenic determination gene) is known for its ability to convert embryonic mouse fibroblast cells into muscle cells. Overexpression of MyoD (human homolog: myf3) in various normal and neoplastic cells can induce muscle cell differentiation or activate muscle-specific genes.
The regulatory domain of MyoD includes a 70 amino acid region containing a basic DNA-binding motif and a helix-loop-helix (HLH) dimerization motif.
Other related genes sharing homology in the HLH domain include myf5, myogenin (myf4), and myf6 (MRF4/herculin).
