Target Information
DGCR8 encodes a subunit of the microprocessor complex that mediates the biogenesis of microRNAs from primary microRNA transcripts.
The encoded protein is a double-stranded RNA binding protein functioning as the non-catalytic subunit of the complex.
It binds double-stranded RNA substrates and assists Drosha, a ribonuclease III enzyme, in processing microRNAs.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
