Target Information
This gene encodes a beta chemokine receptor predicted to be a seven-transmembrane protein similar to G protein-coupled receptors. Chemokines and their receptor-mediated signal transduction play critical roles in recruiting effector immune cells to inflammation sites. The gene is expressed in various tissues and hemopoietic cells. Its presence in lymphatic endothelial cells and vascular tumors suggests a role in chemokine-driven leukocyte recirculation and tumor development. It binds most beta-chemokine family members, though its specific function remains unknown. The gene is mapped to chromosome 3p21.3, within a cluster of chemokine receptor genes.
