Product Specific Information
This recombinant protein is suitable for use as a control in ELISA and Western blot applications.
Lyophilized insulin is stable at room temperature for up to 3 weeks. Reconstitute in sterile 0.005N HCl to a concentration of no more than 1 mg/mL.
Store lyophilized product at -20°C. Upon reconstitution, store at 4°C for 2–7 days or aliquot and store at -20°C.
For long-term storage, add either HSA or BSA to 0.1%. Avoid repeated freeze-thaw cycles.
Target Information
Insulin is a peptide hormone secreted by beta cells of the pancreatic islets. It regulates carbohydrate, protein, and lipid metabolism by enhancing membrane transport of glucose, amino acids, and certain ions.
It promotes glycogen storage, triglyceride formation, and synthesis of proteins and nucleic acids.
Insulin is a 51-amino acid polypeptide produced from proinsulin, which is post-translationally cleaved into two chains (A and B) linked by two disulfide bonds and one molecule of C-peptide.
Insulin deficiency results in diabetes mellitus, a major cause of morbidity and mortality. It is also present in tumors of β-cell origin such as insulinoma.
