The 8B6 Fab binds to extracellular loops 2 and 4 of human SERT, as shown by crystallography.
Target Information
SERT (SLC6A4) is an integral membrane protein that transports serotonin from synaptic spaces into presynaptic neurons. It terminates serotonin action and recycles it in a sodium-dependent manner. This protein is a target of psychomotor stimulants such as amphetamines and cocaine and belongs to the sodium:neurotransmitter symporter family. Promoter polymorphisms may affect serotonin uptake rates and are associated with conditions such as sudden infant death syndrome, aggressive behavior in Alzheimer’s disease, and depression susceptibility.
