Target Information
Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Evidence suggests that many kallikreins are involved in carcinogenesis and may serve as biomarkers for cancer and other diseases.
The KLK7 gene is one of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members clustered on chromosome 19. Its enzyme participates in proteolysis of intercellular cohesive structures preceding desquamation—the shedding of the outermost epidermal layer. Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein.
