Target Information
Kallikreins are a subgroup of serine proteases with diverse physiological functions. Many kallikreins are implicated in carcinogenesis and may serve as novel cancer and disease biomarkers.
KLK7 is one of fifteen kallikrein subfamily members located on chromosome 19. The enzyme is involved in the proteolysis of intercellular cohesive structures preceding desquamation, the shedding of the outermost layer of the epidermis.
Alternative splicing of this gene results in two transcript variants encoding the same protein.
