Target Information
GDP dissociation inhibitors (GDIs) regulate the GDP-GTP exchange reaction of Rab family small GTP-binding proteins, which are involved in vesicular trafficking between cellular organelles. GDIs slow the rate of GDP dissociation from Rab proteins and release GDP from membrane-bound Rab complexes.
GDI1 is primarily expressed in neural and sensory tissues, and mutations in GDI1 have been linked to X-linked nonspecific mental retardation.
