Product Specific Information

This antibody specifically recognizes the 28 to 30 kD small subunit of Calpain 1 and Calpain 2 (mu calpain and m calpain). It recognizes both native and denatured protein in ELISA, Western Blot, and Immunoprecipitation.

Target Information

Calpains are calcium-dependent cysteine proteases widely expressed in mammalian systems. Both m-calpain (calpain II) and μ-calpain (calpain I) consist of an 80 kD large subunit and a 30 kD small subunit. The small subunit is common to both enzymes, while the large catalytic subunits differ and have distinct calcium requirements. μ-calpain is active at micromolar Ca²⁺ concentrations, whereas m-calpain requires millimolar levels. Various tissue-specific calpains have been identified, and their physiological roles continue to evolve.
