Target Information

This gene belongs to the subfamily of ubiquitously expressed heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoproteins (hnRNPs). The hnRNPs are RNA-binding proteins that complex with heterogeneous nuclear RNA (hnRNA). They are associated with pre-mRNAs in the nucleus and influence pre-mRNA processing, mRNA metabolism, and transport.
Some hnRNPs shuttle between the nucleus and cytoplasm. The hnRNP M protein contains three quasi-RRM domains that bind RNAs and functions as a monomer of the N-acetylglucosamine-specific receptor, which may mediate recycling of immature GlcNAc-bearing thyroglobulin molecules.
Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
