Target Information
Langerin (CD207) is a type II membrane-associated C-type lectin expressed exclusively by Langerhans cells. It recognizes mannose residues via its carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) and is localized both on the cell surface and intracellularly in association with Birbeck granules. Expression of Langerin in fibroblasts induces formation of membrane structures characteristic of Birbeck granules, highlighting its role in membrane superimposition and zippering.
