Target Information
This gene encodes one of three members of the Tribbles family. The Tribbles members share a Trb domain, homologous to protein serine-threonine kinases, but lacking the active site lysine and likely catalytic function. Tribbles proteins modulate signal transduction pathways involved in various physiological and pathological processes. This member induces apoptosis in hematopoietic cells and is up-regulated by inflammatory stimuli in myeloid (THP-1) cells. It also acts as an oncogene that inactivates transcription factor C/EBPα, contributing to acute myelogenous leukemia. Alternative spliced transcript variants exist for this gene.
