Target Information
Metadherin (also known as MTDH or LYRIC) is a metastasis adhesion protein localized with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It functions in tight junction maturation rather than as a structural component. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, with lower expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature via a C-terminal extracellular domain segment, and inhibition of this domain or gene silencing has been reported to reduce breast cancer metastasis.
