Target Information
Metadherin (Metastasis adhesion protein), also known as MTDH or LYRIC (LYsine-RIch CEACAM1 co-isolated), is a protein associated with tight junctions in polarized epithelial cells. It localizes with tight junction proteins such as ZO-1 and occludin, not as a structural component but during the maturation of the tight junction complex. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, with much lower expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature through a C-terminal extracellular domain segment, and blocking this domain has been shown to inhibit breast cancer metastasis.
