MA3-921 detects 1,4-dihydropyridine (DHP) receptor alpha-2 subunit from human, rat, mouse, guinea pig, and rabbit skeletal and cardiac muscle.
It has been successfully used in Western blot, immunocytochemistry, immunofluorescence, and immunohistochemistry procedures.
By Western blot, this antibody detects a 220 kDa protein under non-reducing and a 143 kDa protein under reducing conditions, representing DHP from rabbit skeletal muscle membrane preparations.
Immunohistochemical staining of DHP in rabbit skeletal muscle with MA3-921 results in double rows of discrete punctate staining representing pairs of triads on the opposing sides of the Z-lines.
The MA3-921 antigen is purified rabbit DHP receptor.

Target Information

This gene encodes a member of the alpha-2/delta subunit family, a protein in the voltage-dependent calcium channel complex.
Calcium channels mediate the influx of calcium ions into the cell upon membrane polarization and consist of a complex of alpha-1, alpha-2/delta, beta, and gamma subunits in a 1:1:1:1 ratio.
Research on a highly similar protein in rabbit suggests the protein described in this record is cleaved into alpha-2 and delta subunits.
Alternate transcriptional splice variants of this gene have been observed but have not been thoroughly characterized.
