Target Information
FAS (Fas, CD95, APO-1) is a 46 kDa transmembrane glycoprotein functioning as a cell death receptor of the TNFR superfamily. It also exists in a soluble form (~26 kDa). Activation of FAS induces aggregation of FADD domains, formation of the death-inducing signaling complex (DISC), and activation of caspases leading to apoptosis. FAS signaling can activate NF-kappaB, MAPK3/ERK1, and MAPK8/JNK pathways, influencing proliferation in fibroblasts and T cells. Multiple alternatively spliced variants exist, with some negatively regulating apoptosis. The Fas/Fas ligand system is implicated in diseases such as AIDS, hepatitis, and cancer, and plays a key role in antiviral immune responses.
