Target Information

Estrogen Receptor beta (ERβ, NR3A2) is a protein of approximately 55 kDa, with multiple isoforms ranging from 36–59 kDa. Human ERβ was first cloned and characterized from testis.
Estrogen Receptors are members of the steroid/thyroid hormone receptor superfamily of nuclear receptors. They act as ligand-activated transcription factors that, upon estrogen binding, undergo conformational changes enabling dimerization and DNA binding to estrogen response elements (EREs).
ERβ and ERα are encoded by separate genes (ESR2 and ESR1, respectively) and share similar estrogen-binding affinities. Certain ERβ isoforms inhibit ERα activity, particularly in reproductive tissues. ERβ is widely expressed and can function as a potent tumor suppressor, relevant in various diseases including prostate cancer, medullary thyroid carcinoma, De Quervain Disease, cardiovascular disorders, and autism spectrum disorder.
