Target Information
Fibroblast Growth Factor 4 (FGF4) is a member of the FGF family with broad mitogenic and cell survival functions. It plays crucial roles in stem cell growth and survival during embryogenesis, tissue regeneration, and carcinogenesis. FGF4 exhibits strong oncogenic and angiogenic properties, being expressed in various vascularized tumors and adult mouse tissues such as testis, intestine, and brain.
Studies on the mouse homolog suggest involvement in bone morphogenesis and limb development via the Sonic Hedgehog (SHH) signaling pathway. FGF4 also regulates neural progenitor proliferation and neuronal differentiation. Recent research indicates FGF4 promotes human embryonic stem cell growth and may have a feedback role in differentiation through an alternative splice isoform.
