Target Information
This gene encodes an activating transcription factor belonging to the ATF subfamily and the bZIP (basic-region leucine zipper) family. It regulates expression of downstream target genes related to growth, survival, and other cellular processes.
Phosphorylation at serine 63 by multiple kinases enhances its transcriptional activity and contributes to cell transformation.
Fusion of this gene with FUS (chromosome 16) or EWSR1 (chromosome 22) generates chimeric proteins observed in angiomatoid fibrous histiocytoma and clear cell sarcoma.
A pseudogene is located on chromosome 6.
