Target Information
VE-cadherin is a member of the cadherin superfamily that is located in a six-cadherin cluster on chromosome 16. It is involved in loss of heterozygosity events in breast and prostate cancer. VE-cadherin is a calcium-dependent cell-cell adhesion glycoprotein with five extracellular cadherin repeats, a transmembrane region, and a conserved cytoplasmic tail. It functions as a classic cadherin, enabling homophilic cell adhesion and playing a key role in endothelial cell biology through control of intercellular junction organization. An alternative splice variant has been described, but the full-length sequence has not been determined.
