Product Specific Information
This antibody detects a neuraminidase-sensitive epitope on endothelium in vivo, particularly on small vessels, neoformed capillaries, and developing vascular structures in embryonal tissues. It also reacts with hematopoietic progenitors, especially myelomonocytic colony-forming cells.
Target Information
CD34 is a highly glycosylated monomeric surface protein (111–115 kDa) expressed on many stem cell populations. It serves as a stem cell marker, though expression on human hematopoietic stem cells is reversible. CD34 may function as a receptor involved in adhesion, differentiation, and proliferation of hematopoietic and progenitor cells. It likely mediates attachment of stem cells to bone marrow extracellular matrix or stromal cells and may act as a scaffold for glycans binding to lectins. The intracellular domain is phosphorylated by protein kinase C, suggesting a role in signal transduction. CD34 dysfunction is associated with diseases such as dermatofibrosarcoma and neurofibroma.
