Specificity: ATG5.

Target Information

ATG5 (Autophagy Related 5) is an essential protein for autophagy and plays a role in apoptosis. It is involved in mitochondrial quality control after oxidative damage, negative regulation of innate antiviral immune response, lymphocyte development and proliferation, MHC II antigen presentation, and adipocyte differentiation.
Upon conjugation to ATG12, the ATG5–ATG12 complex participates in autophagosome formation and contributes to autophagic cell death through interaction with FADD.
The conjugate forms a cup-shaped isolation membrane that detaches prior to or just after autophagosome completion.
ATG5 expression occurs downstream of caspase activity and associates with innate immune proteins such as RIG-I and VISA (IPS-1), inhibiting type I interferon production and facilitating viral replication.
Dysfunction of ATG5 is associated with spinocerebellar ataxia.
