Target Information
ATG5 (Autophagy Related 5) is a key component of the autophagy process and plays a role in apoptosis. It participates in mitochondrial quality control, antiviral immune regulation, lymphocyte development, MHC II antigen presentation, and adipocyte differentiation. Upon conjugation with ATG12, ATG5 contributes to autophagosome formation and autophagic cell death through interaction with FADD. The ATG5-ATG12 complex forms a cup-shaped isolation membrane that detaches after autophagosome completion. It also interacts with innate immune proteins such as RIG-I and VISA, inhibiting type I interferon production and enabling viral replication. ATG5 dysfunction is associated with spinocerebellar ataxia.
