Product Specific Information

Specificity: EDU-2 (B486) recognizes CD4, a membrane glycoprotein of T lymphocytes that interacts with MHC class II antigens and serves as a receptor for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV).

Target Information

The CD4 antigen is involved in the recognition of MHC class II molecules and acts as a co-receptor for HIV. CD4 is mainly expressed on T helper cells, but also on monocytes, macrophages, and dendritic cells. Tissue-level expression includes thymus, lymph nodes, tonsils, spleen, and certain regions of the brain and gut. CD4 plays a role in initiating or enhancing T-cell activation via the T-cell receptor complex and protein tyrosine kinase Lck. It may also mediate neuronal damage in infectious and immune-mediated CNS diseases. Multiple alternatively spliced transcripts have been identified (RefSeq, July 2017).
